Rachel Maclean was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport on 14 February 2020. She was elected Conservative MP for Redditch in 2017.

Education
Rachel studied Experimental Psychology at St Hugh's College, Oxford and obtained a master's degree in Work and Occupational Psychology from Aston University.

Political Career
Rachel was elected as Member of Parliament for Redditch at the 2017 General Election. She sat on the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee between September 2017 and June 2018. Rachel has served as a Parliamentary Private Secretary in the Home Office, Department for Work and Pensions and HM Treasury.

Career outside politics
Rachel joined HSBC in 1989, working in Australia, Japan and Hong Kong. In 2005 she set up a publishing company with her husband specialising in IT and software content. More recently Rachel co-founded a HR-software business which provides a platform for SMEs to use the latest technology tools to run their businesses more efficiently.
Rachel founded ‘Skilled and Ready’, a charity working with schools to help young people develop skills that businesses look for in their employees.

Frances joined Ofgem in January 2015 and is the director for Energy Systems Management & Security, with responsibility for the regulatory arrangements to support the transition of energy systems. This involves overseeing all aspects of network charging, flexibility, wholesale markets and system operation across the electricity and gas networks, and leading Ofgem’s work on Electric Vehicles.
Before joining Ofgem, Frances was a director in the Economic Advisory Practice at EY where she specialised in the energy sector. Prior to that, she was a competition investigation director at the Office of Fair Trading. Frances has a Masters degree in economics from LSE and a Bachelors degree in engineering physics from Queen’s University in Canada.

Aaron Berry is Deputy Head of the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) at the UK Department for Transport.  OLEV work to support the UK’s ambitions to transition to ultra low emission vehicles (ULEVs). Aaron leads teams responsible for regulation and incentive schemes that support the roll-out of chargepoint infrastructure for electric vehicles. Aaron studied at Keele University where he graduated with a first class degree in environmental management and business. He is married and lives near London with his wife and three teenage sons.

Graeme leads National Grid’s work on electric vehicles/decarbonisation of transport by leading and coordinating all the work relating to the UK regulated business of National Grid. As National Grid separates the Transmission Ownership (TO) from the System Operation (SO) by April 2019, Graeme will be representing the TO business of National Grid. His work helps the Government, the energy and automotive industry’s transition towards zero emission vehicles. With over a decade in communications infrastructure and over a decade in low/zero carbon electricity, Graeme is a well-known and highly respected energy industry expert.

Graeme is a graduate of Oxford Brookes University (BSc 1997) and Bi Norwegian Business School (MBA Energy 2016).

Graeme takes his decarbonisation work home with him as he drives a PHEV and BEV and heats his home using ground source heat pumps.

Philip is the Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Systems Catapult. The Energy Systems Catapult was established in April 2015 with the remit to support the transition of the UK Energy System and enable economic growth from the many commercial and technological opportunities that will be created as the way we make, distribute and use energy undergoes radical change over the coming decades. The scope includes the interaction of energy with adjacent sectors, including water and transport

He is a Commissioner on the global Energy Transition Commission and a member of the Global Futures Council of the World Economic Forum.  Philip is also a Fellow of the Energy Institute and sits on various Advisory Panels.

Before joining the Catapult Philip worked for BP for over 30 years in a range of commercial and general management positions, mostly in customer-facing businesses, operating in Asia, North and South America, and Europe. 

Philip has an MA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University, and lives in Oxford, UK with his wife. His three children are now at University.

Tom has worked in the electric vehicle and wider automotive sector for 12 years. He formerly chaired the UK motor industry's principle EV group and has extensive knowledge of electric vehicles, infrastructure and associated technologies. His role at bp Chargemaster includes engaging with the media, car manufacturers, government and other stakeholders, and helping to develop strategy. He drives around 30,000 pure electric, zero-emission miles per year.

Karl has recently come from Nissan GB where he held the role of National EV Manager – Corporate Sales. He has previously held positions with the Energy Saving Trust and General Motors and has been in the automotive industry for 30 years in the UK and overseas. The company is a supplier to several major automobile manufacturers and has already started the roll out for the Audi UK dealer network.

Marzia brings a wealth of Energy and Policy experience to Kaluza having spent over 20 years working on policies and strategies to enable the energy transition for regulators, business and not for profit sectors. In her most recent role, Marzia was Director of Insights at the World Energy Council and led a team of global energy experts on unlocking opportunities related to the energy transition. Prior to that, Marzia worked for Sempra Energy in Los Angeles and was a policy advisor for California’s energy regulator in San Francisco. Here she was instrumental in their smart meter rollout and in the early regulatory work to help legitimise ride sharing companies including Uber and Lyft. In her new role as Kaluza’s Head of Customer Policy & Strategy, Marzia will ensure that the consumer remains at the heart of the transition to a decarbonised energy system.

Marzia has a degree in Business and Accounting from San Diego, California.

Edmund King has been President of the Automobile Association since 2008 and is also a Visiting Professor of Transport at Newcastle University. He is also a trustee and director of the AA Charitable Trust for Road Safety and the Environment. The Trust won a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award in 2018 for ten years of innovative road safety campaigns.

He has a politics degree from Newcastle University and a postgraduate diploma in broadcasting. He has worked as a committee secretary for the Social Science Research Council, for a Government Department in Whitehall, in public relations for a wine company in Burgundy, in the motor industry in California, as a broadcaster in Los Angeles, as Campaigns Co-Coordinator for the British Road Federation, and for various motoring groups and think tanks.

He has written several reports on transport and often appears as a transport commentator on radio and television. He was awarded an OBE for ‘services to road safety’ in the 2016 Queen’s New Year Honours. He was runner-up in the Wolfson Economics Prize 2017 alongside his wife, Deirdre, for their thesis on ‘Road Miles’.

Chris joined ChargePoint from Uber where he was the head of policy and communications, EMEA. Other roles Chris has filled were as Vice President for Corporate Affairs for Western Europe at Anheuser-Busch InBev and as Vice President for Business Development and Marketing EMEA at Hill & Knowlton.

Chris holds an MBA in Finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, an MA from the College of Europe and a BA from the University of Sussex and the Institut d’Etudes Politiques of Aix-en-Provence. As a dual German/Belgian citizen, Chris is no stranger to Brussels as he grew up here for a part of his life and currently lives here with his wife and three young children.

Paul holds a B.Eng (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Systems. He has spent his entire career working to keep electricity networks safe & reliable. When he joined EA Technology, he specialised in infrastructure asset management and worked with electricity utilities around the world to develop risk-based asset management techniques. As a result of this work, he sits as Patron’s representative on the Institute of Asset Management Council and is a co-opted member of the ISO/TC 251 UK mirror committee on Asset Management. More recently, the move to clean up and decarbonise of transport has re-kindled his passion for electric vehicles. In his current role as Head of Electric Vehicle Infrastructure, he is able to use his experience of large-scale infrastructure deployment to help utilities build networks that are fit for our future electric transport needs.

Ian Cameron has over 20 years’ international experience in the electricity distribution networks industry. As Head of Innovation for UK Power Networks, Ian’s role includes management of the central team of highly skilled engineers providing support to the business and industry through developing innovative solutions to strategic key focus areas. These focus areas being readiness of the distribution network for the low carbon transition, future business / operating models and efficient and effective delivery of existing business outputs. Furthermore, Ian has overall accountability for innovation delivery programmes and innovation strategic direction.

Ian’s career started in Eskom South Africa, where he left the position of Senior Technical Specialist, he then joined UK firm Freedom Group Power Projects division as Regional delivery manager. Since joining UK Power Networks Ian has overseen the delivery and connection of over 230 large renewable distributed generation sites, adding over 4GW to the grid in three years before moving on to his current role as head of the industry-leading Innovation Team.

Steve is Director of the RAC Foundation, an independent charitable think-tank that commissions and disseminates research relating to motoring. Recent reports have covered topics including the safety of older drivers, the number of speeding offences detected by different police forces, and the roll-out of chargepoints for electric vehicles.

Steve took over at the Foundation in 2015 after a long civil service career encompassing many transport-related roles, latterly as Director General for Roads, Traffic & Local at the Department for Transport. 
After graduating from Durham University Steve joined the civil service in 1983, moving to the Transport Department in 1987 where, amongst other roles, he was private secretary to transport ministers Peter Bottomley, Michael Portillo and Roger Freeman. 

Steve is a fellow of the CIHT, vice-president of the CILT, a trustee of the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund, a regular columnist in Highways magazine and commentator on transport issues in the media.

Mike Wilson has been Chief Highways Engineer at Highways England since September 2013. His responsibilities include the provision of technical support to the organisation for the delivery of its programme that includes the development of technical standards for all aspects of highway maintenance, operation and improvement. This development activity is underpinned by an innovation programme and includes work on safety, intelligent mobility and asset management.
Previously Mike led the development of Smart Motorways for the Highways Agency and was Regional Director responsible for the maintenance, improvement and long-term development of the strategic road network in the South West, East Midlands and East. Mike led for the Highways Agency on all aspects of operational policy including for maintenance, incident and emergency management and network occupancy.
His early career was spent on maintenance and improvement of the strategic road network.

Ian is Account Manager, Supply Chain at the Energy Saving Trust. The organisation is dedicated to help people and businesses save energy and has a dedicated transport team.
His role includes providing technical support for the Trust’s extensive work supporting private and public organisations transition to Ultra Low Emission Vehicles. Ian also leads the Trust’s work with the new and used vehicle supply chain, helping the sector understand and effectively sell electric cars and vans.
Ian has provided technical input into a number of reports including SMMT’s Electric Car Guide 2011, Plugged in Fleets published by The Climate Group 2012, Plugged in Fleets Initiative –charging forward published by EST 2013, Getting to grips with grey fleet published by BVRLA 2016 and Low Emission Taxi Guide published by LowCvp 2018.
Before joining the Energy Saving Trust, Ian worked in the leasing and fleet management industry and is a member of the Institute of the Motor Industry.

Uber

Christopher is Uber's UKI Clean Air Lead. This means he is responsible for Uber’s ambition to be 100% electric in London by 2025 and helping to scale up sustainability efforts across the UK and beyond. This includes helping to shape Uber’s plan to be zero emissions by 2040. 

He sits on Global Action Plan's Business Clean Air Taskforce and regularly engages with government, regulators, NGOs and other companies about how to encourage more sustainable transport. 

Prior to joining Uber in 2019, Christopher spent ten years as a sustainability strategy consultant at Accenture Strategy, culminating in leading Accenture’s Sustainable Finance practice. During this time he worked closely with Accenture Development Partnerships, applying his knowledge of sustainability to support large NGOs and development organisations.

Roisin works in the City Planning department of Transport for London (TfL), with a primary role to implement the Mayor of London’s Transport Strategy; providing strategic direction to improve the Capital’s transport offer, enable its future growth and secure better health and environmental outcomes.
A key aspect in working towards the MTS policy of seeking to make London’s transport network zero emissions by 2050, is the switch to zero emission vehicles. One means of gaining insight to some of the challenges to this agenda is to undertake research and demonstrate near-market technologies to potentially remove some of these barriers. Working with key stakeholders to shape London’s future, Roisin leads the portfolio of Innovate UK and European funded research and innovation projects at TfL which aims to gain insight and further understanding of some of these barriers to enable the widespread switch to electric vehicles and development of infrastructure.

Dr Euan McTurk is an electrochemist who has been working on battery tech and driving electric vehicles since 2009. During his PhD at the University of Oxford, Euan worked on next-generation battery chemistries and the instrumentation of commercial lithium-ion cells to determine their true performance limits. He recently built a state-of-the-art battery test facility in Edinburgh, where he encountered many of the same hurdles that EV charging infrastructure providers come up against when trying to connect several hundred kilowatts of equipment to the grid!
Euan is the creator of the YouTube channel Plug Life Television, which explains the complex electrochemistry of batteries in a way that anyone can understand. Following the success of the channel, he has launched Plug Life Consulting Ltd, which assists academia, business, industry and government organisations with projects relating to battery technology, electric vehicles, energy storage systems and charging infrastructure.

Sara is a transport professional with a background in public and private sector, Sara has over fifteen years of Infrastructure project management and sustainable development experience. Sara has delivered project management for the West of England wide “Local Sustainable Transport Fund” and set up the Cycling City advisor team for Bristol City Council. Sara has more recently been leading on Go Ultra Low West project for North Somerset Council, overseeing the roll out of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. After receiving the GreenFleet EV Champion Award in 2018 and featuring on the EV100 list in 2019 and 2020, Sara was invited to participate in an exchange visit with the Dutch embassy to explore how Holland has embraced electric mobility and clean energy. Sara aims to use her experience and expertise to encourage healthy procurement competition and ensure wide reaching supply and market opportunities clean energy transition.

Hugo is now part of the EV Solutions Team leading EDF Energy's work on Vehicle-to-Grid. His role is to develop EDF's commercial offer in the UK, bringing to market innovative smart charging solutions whilst making sure that these solutions will have a positive impact on the grid.

Justin Laney manages the John Lewis Partnership fleet of nearly 4,000 commercial vehicles and 1,300 cars. The fleet is recognised for leading in innovation, and the priorities remain to reduce all emissions including those affecting air quality and noise, through efficiency and displacing all diesel with low carbon alternatives.
Areas of focus include using biomethane in heavy trucks, electrification of home delivery operations, high capacity vehicles, aerodynamics, and other methods, based on good science and rigorous testing. Key John Lewis Partnership commitments include running all heavy trucks on biomethane by 2028, and achieving a zero carbon fleet by 2045, together with an ambition to remove all fossil fuel from the fleet by 2030.
Justin’s career started with London Transport (Buses), having obtained a BEng at Liverpool University. He also worked at UPS for 20 years, managing fleets in EMEA as well as the UK.
Justin is a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, a Director of the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership, and Chair of the Centre for Sustainable Road Freight (SRF) Steering Committee.
