City & Financial Global is pleased to announce its professional webinar series, “Sanctions Regulation and Compliance 2020”

The international community is facing a period of unprecedented complexity in complying with different, often competing, sanctions regimes. The long arm of the US administration’s somewhat erratic approach, particularly in relation to the imposition of secondary sanctions, means their consequences will be felt globally. While in theory non-US actors could conduct legitimate business with a US sanctioned entity, in practice being denied access to the US financial system means the choice is illusory.

In the UK, the Government has promised to introduce a new British sanctions regime, partly to counteract fears that concern for human rights might be lost in a post-Brexit quest for new business and trading partners.

In addition, companies with a presence in Europe have to face the consequences of the expected divergence between the UK and EU sanctions regimes. Many believe that the UK will gravitate towards the US stance on sanctions. Meanwhile, the EU, without the UK driving its sanctions policies, is likely to develop a much softer stance.
It is against this backdrop that City & Financial is running its professional webinar series on Sanctions Regulation and Compliance 2020. This series comprises eight webinars covering the many new challenges which the Trump administration and Brexit brings.

Issues to be covered include:

  • Webinar One: The US administration’s current and future sanctions priorities. The implications of the current US sanctions policy on international trade
  • Webinar Two: The UK’s sanctions regime post-Brexit: what are the implications for sanctions compliance?
  • Webinar Three: Sanctions compliance in practice – what do you need to do?
  • Webinar Four: Spotlight on Iran: assessing the extra-territorial effects of secondary sanctions and EU Blocking measures
  • Webinar Five: Spotlight on Russia: the proposed new regime for dealing with Russian entities
  • Webinar Six: Spotlight on China and the Far East
  • Webinar Seven: Consequences of failure to comply with UK sanctions: the OFSI’s enforcement strategy: Dealing with increasingly complex reporting requirements: navigating the regulatory minefield and tactics surrounding voluntary disclosure
  • Webinar Eight: Aligning sanctions compliance with financial crime and AML surveillance policies: overcoming the regulatory challenges of ensuring consistent monitoring techniques
